MPG?
this may be a silly question as i was told the samurai isnt the best on fuel, but mine seems to be getting 100 miles to £40................ i think its terrable, seeing as it strugles to get to 40mph. is this a common fuel consumption?

Re: MPG?
You need to work out your mpg, mine used to run low to mid 20's when it dropped to 18mpg my choke was stuck on and it was running overly rich.
For you £40 @ £1.38per litre (or it is around here) = 28.98litres
Using this site
http://www.mpg-calculator.co.uk/
100m for 28.98litres = 15.69mpg which is low, how much do you pay for petrol if its not the same it will knock the calculation out, what modifications does your SJ have? Low ratio gearbox's, big aggresive tyres and added weight all bring the figure down.

Re: MPG?
Reading some of your other threads from last week James, you thought you may have a problem with brakes binding.
Did you get a look at them brakes etc? does it freewheel downhill ok?
That would kill the MPG
It shouldn't struggle getting to 40 mph so there must be a problem somewhere with it.
Are you running it in 2wd on the road?
Does it have manual front hubs?

Re: MPG?
I just worked mine out today and I got 29.8MPG. I've got a 4 speed though.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: MPG?
there is something majorly wrong there, firstly it should not be that poor on fuel and you should be able to cruise at 60mph and easily hit 70mph.
also I noticed in you're other thread that you only use it for short journeys i.e. a mile or two at a time, It probably runs on choke for most of that as it takes a while to warm up so that will be using more .
Mines crap but I expect that with the extra drag of two transfer boxes to turn, no free wheeling hubs, power steering and 33x12.50 tyres

Re: MPG?
Are you sure it's not leaking fuel somewhere while running? 15mpg is seriously low. Even when running like an absolute pig mine used to manage 22-25mpg.

Re: MPG?
Mine struggles to do 70. I normally stick to 55 on the motorway though. It might so 70 at a push downhill but it wouldn't feel very stable
I get about 100 miles to £20 (I've never put more than £20 at a time in to check mpg )

Re: MPG?
When my Sammy was standard it struggled to do 70, although I once had 80 on the speedo southbound on the m1 it was on a down hill stretch (i was travelling from stocksbridge to rotherham) with the wind behind me, I doubt it was a real 80 as the speedo was always optimistic! But I do know it wasn't happy or stable at that speed! I would not recommend it
Re: MPG?
I drive that section of road at least twice a day. I'm from Stocksbridge.
