Steering Stabilizer?

Post by lifeisshort » Fri May 04, 2012 2:31 pm

Hi All,

I have a question which may be obvious but im a newbie to my Sammy.

I have lifted the sammy 2" and i only just managed to get the steering stabilizer (pictured) back on.

First what does this do? and do i need it?

ps soon to do a power steering conversion from a jimny aswell. do i keep the steering dampner on after fitting power steering?

thanks

Unless I am mistaken, that's an the anti-roll bar. It helps keep your truck the right way up and stop it from rolling in corners. If you're off-roading though, it's probably better leaving it off, as it limits your flex.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

took mine off and threw it away
you get better flex without
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

I keep mine on to help me throw it around corners and surprise the boy racers sat on my ass.

Bit of a grey area, but most MOT stations will let it go as long as its all removed IE all brackets etc
Basically if it or any of it is there it has to be in good working condition.

If this was done with the vehicle level it should fit easily, but if you did it with either side jacked up it would fight you.
