clutch

Post by larkins8 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 10:45 pm

just before xmas i bought a sj with a 1.6 vitara engine in it. i know nothing about these vehicles but after going offroading in my mates disco and it being completely useless i decided to buy the sj cos it looked light and fun oh and it was stupidly cheap. problem is the clutch has gone cos my mate tryed to tow a 2.5 tonne digger which was stuck and burnt the clutch out. i have no idea what clutch to buy to fix it would it be a sj item or vitara or are they the same??? or is there no way of telling untill i get the thing apart?

ive bid on one on ebay cos it was cheap this is what it said

from looking at your pic you have a sammy not a santa,
so id look for a sammy cluch for a 413 as the 410 are smaller,
as far as i no there is no such SUZUKI SAMURAI SJ410 there all 413
you can get a santa in both 410 an 413,
also when the engen change was dun they wood have used the original gear box
as is a easy mod to do that way an as far as i no the 410 box wont fit a vit lump.
hope this helps

It probably is a 413 gearbox as they are alot easier to mate to the vitara lump, so i think it would be the suzuki sj413 clutch you would need!

I think it's the 413 clutch you need, however, there are a few different ones fitted to each of the different models, whether they be jap or spanish. Therefore I suggest you get friendly with a local motor factor and ask them to order the two that are listed in their book for your vehicle and then you take the old one to them to match it up so you can go home with the right one. They will obviously have to send one back, but my local motor factors were more than happy to do that and they actually suggested that they do it. They sell Motoquip stuff, so clearly Mototquip don't mind them doing it.

Some of the differences is only the release bearing, so you could just use your old bearing, but you'll be mighty upset having removed the gearbox to fit a new clutch, just for the bearing to fail in a month or so if you don't change it!!!
