GSXR 600 Carbs

Post by Ladaman » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:39 pm

Has anyone on here fitted the above to a Sammi engine?

I've looked through a few Yank site and found some good write ups. (I think I've seen a few posts from ScottieJ also among them).

I've bought a set, and looking to fit them next year, after I've done my rear disc conversion, fitted the Vit R&P's in both diff's and my Lockrite in the rear, made and fitted a transfer brake. :lol: So no hurry for info'

It doesn't seem very popular here in the UK, just SU's and Webers as alternatives.

I just thought I'd do something a little different.

I have been toying with the idea of fitting gsxr carbs on and off for the last year or 2, It's something that I would really like to do I just have soooo many things that I would like to do and not enough time or money at the moment :lol:

Funny that I literally just recommended this set up to justaddmud for his kja. I know a guy called Joel made his own set up and fitted them to his 1.6 16v sj in the UK but not sure if he really put many miles on them. http://www.my-4x4.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Shuduck from Norway also made his own set up on a 16v, his sj build

Apparently with a good set up you can almost double the 1.3 8vs bhp, this is the inlet I would love to do it with :guns: http://geckocycles.com/samurai_products.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Might be worth contacting these guys http://www.boggbros.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; about an inlet manifold (i have been intending to just not got round to it) they make all sorts of bike carb conversions including an inlet for the 1.3 16v dohc swift engine. My mate has one of their manifolds and bike carbs on his mk2 golf :smokin:

Here's a few good threads, feel free to post up any others you have found and if I remember any others ill do the same.

This is a bit of an epic one http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content?topic=70640.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

gixxers and a snorkel has good info on intake design for a 16v

I know of some others but will have to remember where they are :lol:

Thanks for those links Scottie.

I've seen the Gekocycles one, I think that the one that got me thinking about doing it.

I'm puzzled as to why people fabricate fancy manifolds. Any idea why?

I know I haven't started yet, but I'm hoping to use the original rubbers that bolted to the engine block, and mount the carbs on those, as the original design. I also have the rubbers from the carbs to the air box. Again, hopefully allowing the fitting of a snorkel or similar.

This is a link to lots of useful carb info that I found.

This one is quality, you just have to love the guy who casts his own aluminium block to start with.

Basically on the 8v engine the thermostat is in the inlet and there are a few water channels so you need to build this either into the manifold or as a separate unit. The 16v doesn't and the thermostat is on the head so its easier to make an inlet. You can make them quite simply but the gecko one is designed to get the most out of the set up and make as much HP as possible. Plus you get more torque with the longer runners, I have seen people make them with those original rubbers.

Yeah Tan Zuk's work is incredible I have been chatting to him a lot he's a nice chap :doublethumbs:
