Exhaust

Post by charger » Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:57 pm

Is the stock SJ exhaust 1 piece from the muffler to headers or is there a separate back box going to the middle. Mine is blowing a bit & I wanted to put a cherry bomb on there. Does any one know if that is possible & if the cherry is ok with off road abuse.

I've got a cherry bomb on mine because the backbox pipe snapped in half...

I got a cherry bomb backbox (with a nice chrome tip), some pipe, and the flange off the original exhaust... weld it all together and hey presto!

I'm thinking about a cherry bomb silencer coming out the side

I'm making my exhaust next week, single RC40 Exhaust box exiting just behing the drivers side door under the bed

and yes as everyone has said, there is a small box on the downpipe from the manifold, that then runs to a bigger silencer at the rear

I did do a cut and shut on project MK3 and substituted a peice of pipe, made very little difference, so i would imagine a cherry bomb would make a nice extra bit of noise

My cherry bomb sounds lovely and burbley... the bass noise is a bit intense inside the garage though!!

Is a side exit ok for off roading?
I was thinking about cutting the middle pip down so it's pretty short then clamping the cherry to it.

Personally I wouldn't advise a side exit that exits below the sills, it will be more likely to get damaged. Behind the back wheel would be ok but that's awkward to do on an sj with the leaf springs.
