removing steering wheel?

Post by bigben » Tue May 24, 2011 7:27 pm

Hi i have just bought an sj410 on a c plate with the indicators not working, the previous owner thinks it is the sender unit in the stalk block thingey. He did gove me another unit but i cant get the bloody wheel off this ive tried pulling on the wheel and hitting the bolt to break her free from the splines but nowt is happening. Do i need a puller?

O and yes i have the bolt loose lol

Like robbie said, wither hit it with your hands or my way...

Enter sj, shut door sit in seat.

Fit seatbelt

Select hard tunes on the radio

Hands at ten to two

And go for it,

Works for me

Took me a few attempts but I got mine off in a similar way with a bit of a wiggle.

Just make sure it doesn't come off and hit you in the face
:S :hahaha:

And no I'm not talking from experience but I bet its happened to someone

Happened to me years ago on my first car. Sat in the seat of my mk1 Clio an removed the nut. Went crazy on the wheel for about 5 mins until it broke free suddenly and smashed myself in the forehead.

I fell back in the seat and felt seriously dazed for ages.

I should have left the nut on the threads.

I just removed the wheel on an SJ column that was off the car. I got a mate to hold it while I hit the splines with a copper hammer. It took a LOT of hammering but it did go. I can't imagine been able to do that on the car though
