New member - Own LWB SJ413

Post by Rjmaas512 » Fri Apr 15, 2011 10:39 pm

Hello,

Recently got my self an LWB SJ, in a bit of a state at the moment do in the process of re-building it. Hopefully will be my car for next year at uni :).

Have a few photos of it to upload for anyone who is interested.

Job list:

1) Brakes
2) Sill Replacement
3) Sort out wiring
4) Strip Gear box and change seals
5) Clean inside and paint
6) Wheel arch welding
7) Sort out an airfilter of some form...
8) Headgasket - might need it
9) Lights
10) CB/Lighter socket/switch pannel
11) LPG - have the kit in my garage
12) New seats
13) Oil change

And many more jobs that need to be done...

The good points are that the chassis is rust free :), it drives, suspension is good, fairly solid

Just needs some TLC after sitting for a year and a half. Friend of mine has re-built a series 3 landrover and a few other cars so if anyone else asks about the welding it wasn't me, I'm not that good.

Hopefully it will be on the road for the summer when i hope to drive it to Scotland and back...

No doubt will be asking loads of questions on here when I get stuck. Already have one question about the wiring for the rear wiper motor.

Haha you don't see may lwb full stop, if you look at the members map majority of the SJ's are on the south coast, must be the warm climate preventing the rust! :poke:

Thanks for the welcome :)

Lots of work, but will be done soon enough :) Then I can play.

Glad I got a LWB, prefer them to the SWB. Not sure why but a SWB seemed too short when i looked at them. Do intend to use the car to transport friends and stuff, plus need somewhere to fit the LPG tank (hopefully).

I've been quite lucky with the rust on this one, though the previous owner never took it off road. I Thought it would be worse than it currently is. Welding is almost done, just need to do the wheel arches and paint it all.

As for the 400 lights, will be putting them back on, hopefully with a laser cut acrylic switch panel so they work, unlike before when there were wires hanging loose in the engine bay randomly attached to strange places.

Anyone got any tips where to mount a CB and Ham? I am thinking of making a metal bracket behind the handbrake where I can attach both of them back to back.
