Starters for sj 1.6 conversion

Post by twiss » Wed Dec 08, 2010 11:05 pm

Always double check that the motor diameter is around 3", that fat 3.25" ones need grinding

Bosch skinny starter part number 0-001-112-032

Mitsubishi skinny starter m1t74583

DRS3045 This is a generic part number so it might take a few attempts before your local parts store gets a skinny one using it

QS1430

Alternatives.
Bear with me on this one, I want to double/triple check it's the right part number

I found this on my mates jap SJ 413 ...
it fits properly on a samurai gearbox as well.

Smaller than the skinny starters that are getting quite rare now...

Valeo D6RA13

This is the starter I originally started off with.

Get them new from here: http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=VALEO&Ref=D6RA13

Image

It looks very similar to the D6RA62, but can be told apart from it due to the different size housing although the motor itself and the solenoid are the same.
This starter had 9 teeth and will fit on a Suzuki.

You can see in the photos below how similar they are. The first photo shows my D6RA13 with the D6RA62 motor and solenoid.
The second picture shows the housing parts of both starters and how they differ.

D6RA62

This is fitted to quite a few different cars, so is easy to come by.
You do need to check the amount of teeth on the gear though, as some have 9 and some have 10.

They are fitted to:

OPEL Agila 1.2 01/2000 -
OPEL Astra F 1.4i 09/1991 01/1998
OPEL Astra F 1.6i 09/1991 01/1998
OPEL Astra G 1.2 16V 03/1998 -
OPEL Astra G 1.4 16V 03/1998 -
OPEL Astra G 1.6 16V 03/1998 -
OPEL Astra G 1.6 8V 03/1998 -
OPEL Corsa B 1.2 02/1993 01/2000
OPEL Corsa B 1.4 03/1993 01/2000
OPEL Corsa B 1.6 03/1993 01/2000
OPEL Corsa B 1.6 03/1993 01/2000
OPEL Corsa B 1.6 03/1993 01/2000
OPEL Corsa B 1.6i 16V 11/1994 01/2000
OPEL Corsa C 1.2 04/2000 -
OPEL Corsa C 1.4 16V 04/2000 -
OPEL Vectra A 1.4 09/1988 01/1994
OPEL Vectra A 1.6 01/1994 01/1995
OPEL Vectra B 1.6 16V 09/1995 -
OPEL Zafira 1.6 16V 03/1998 -
VAUXHALL Cavalier 09/1988 01/1994

There is another starter than basically shares all of the same components, except for the silver metal casing. The motor, solenoid and gears are the same.

These are normally about £30

I haven't tried it but you can get remanufactured cavalier one for £30!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S715-VAUXHALL-NOV ... 5d2afd9dbb

D6RA 63

Ideally you need to get a starter that is a D6RA13 to begin with, but these have the correct amount of teeth and are good for spares.

Image

They are fitted to:

RENAULT Laguna 2.0 16V 09/1999 01/2001
VOLVO S40 1.6 01/1997 -
VOLVO S40 1.8 09/1995 -
VOLVO S40 1.9 T4 05/1997 01/2000
VOLVO S40 2.0 01/1996

You can get them on Ebay for £40 roughly... cheaper from a motor factors or scrappy where you don't have to pay for delivery.

The good news is, if you find a cheap one with 10 teeth, you can get the gear for just under £15 and swap it

http://www.woodauto.com/Component.aspx?Ref=SDV38156

Easiest way to find them is on ebay, i.e. search for "vauxhall cavalier starter motor"

Hehehe, my Dad'll probably have a dozen or two if they fit that many Vauxhalls/Opels. He has his own private parts emporium.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

I'm not gonna go there again... always break stuff at Slindon, never break stuff anywhere else! :argh:

(Except my throttle cable but who cares about that?)

yup .. slindon that day... was erm.. a 'killer'

the crawley 4x4 club suffered heavey loses at the hands of slindon.... (mostly landys i might add) front end on a disco 2, diffs on, a defender 90 (both front n rear) diff on another disco... TWISS aswell... alternator :p a vauxhall fronteiraa clutch and what happened to my wheel bearings and erm... something...

i once killed a car soo good there, (acidentally jumped it 3ft) that it now resides in my shed as spares. however i sold the engine...(twas nackered mind) which somehow ennded up in slough... which is IN the car i bought yesterday... small world ey?

weird dot com.
