Hi,
I recently purchased a 2002 3d Suzuki Vitara 1.6 16v.
When accelerating the car hesitated, juddered and struggled up hills badly but with no engine management light flagging. I had a full service done including new set of spark plugs by a local garage and they diagnosed the problem as the lambda sensors being worn. I had both replaced which was pretty expensive £280, which only improved it slightly. The mechanic advised me upon paying the bill to use red-x as the injectors may need cleaning ( I used 2x 500ml bottles over 2 full tanks with no luck). Furthermore the engine management light also come on after the lambda sensor replacements.
I took the car to a different garage as I wasn't happy with the work or communication. They diagnosed it pretty quickly as the throttle position sensor not working under half or full acceleration. They managed to salvage a used one, adjust & fit for £100. Just the new part from Suzuki alone was over £200. This fixed all the acceleration issues and transformed the drive for a surprisingly small bill. Although I had spent around £480 fixing the problem (spark plugs, lambda sensors, throttle position sensor) in total.
I am still getting the engine management light come on randomly and after a week or so its disappears, the code is P0400 (gas recirculation flow).
Also i'm getting about 25-6mpg on average with driving really steady this seems pretty low, could it be linked to the fault code?
Anyone had similar issues with any advise on how to fix it ? online it seems to point to the EGR valve. I Don't really want to spend much more if I can help it. Apologies for the essay I thought it would give a better understanding, Thanks!
Engine management light EGR? & MPG
Re: Engine management light EGR? & MPG
I believe the EGR valve is an easy thing to remove and clean/flush through as appose to replacing it, as in there nature they are prone to getting quite easily clogged with carbon. Also worth cleaning out any hoses that go to and from the valve.
