G16A rebuild

Post by Littlewoody » Thu Oct 31, 2019 8:55 pm

Hi, I have swapped the block on my 1.6 8v vitara and rebuilt top. Turns over great but will not fire. I am going to have no hair left with the timing on this thing. Any ideas?

Go through the check list, do you have a spark? Is fuel getting to the engine? If so the timing could be out, commonly 180° out, but check the first things first.

Thankyou
I do have spark and can smell fuel but not 100% fuel lines round carb/pump are correct.
Cannot find decent picture which shows this.
Can you suggest a site.
Thanks
Stew

No reverse lights, check all your earths are solid and not rusted or loose, check the reverse switch on the gearbox doesn't have snapped wires etc.

What carb are you running?

Whats wrong with the heating? Check the heater matrix is not blocked or any of your air duct pipes haven't come undone under the dash maybe.

Sound new Japanese thermostat sorted heating out toasty. My mate took reverse switch apart and cleaned it,all working.
It's running Makuni carb.drives but very rich and high revs. Going to try tamper proof setting tomorrow.

I found that using the "colourtune" kit from Gunson let me tune my SJ's carb pretty much perfectly. Got much better fuel economy when I was done, although I didn't feel any more power, probably because I was running rich before.

Have you put a timing light on it and sorted the timing?
