Vit 1.6 8v engine rattle.

Hello all,

I am looking to get a vit 1.6 and over the weekend I went to look at a 1998 8v. It all seemed fine until i got a little heat into the engine and then the engine started to rattle and i notice the the check engine light was on. this a rattle seemed to get louder so I cut the test drive short and took it back to the trader. this rattle seemed to be coming from the top end. I have a quick look and there appeared to be a minor oil leak beneath the dizzy.

So, should i run a mile? It has done 80k miles and is up for around £1400.

Way overpriced.

Personally I would aim to get a 16v, they have much better performance. Also you will pick one up for a much better price privately than from a dealer.

I'm not really a fan of used car dealers, the chances of an honest one are slim to none
