SJ410 Transfer Box rattles at 40+ mph

Post by Phillips321 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 11:46 am

Hi guys,

A few days ago I drove in deep water to get to a field where access was flooded. Deep to me is 50cm ;-)

Since this (maybe a coicindence) but my transfer box rattles 2Wheel High above 40mph. If I hold the transfer level I can feel the rattling and if I press to one side it disappears.

I have checked the UJs and joins and they all feel solid. The transfer mounts look ok.

I have done a full oil change but the oil that came out looked good and full.

Any other ideas what could cause this?

Thanks in advance.

IMO it's best to remove at least one end of a prop to check the UJs. They can seize and you can't tell unless you unbolt the prop.

Also check engine mounts, when the engine moves around it can transfer vibrations down to the tbox. again engine mount need to be removed to check them because of their design.
