Grand Vitara radio - poor reception

Hi guys,

I have a 2014 Grand Vitara and prior to that had a 2008 Grand Vitara. Both vehicles were bought new.

In both vehicles the radio reception in general (FM and AM) has been abysmal despite being assured by the main dealer that all is working as it should.

And, in both cases, the aerial is the original stubby little black rubber item.

Any ideas/suggestions please?
