I am a new member ... what a great site, hello to everyone.
I bought my '98 Suzuki Samurai in South Africa 10 years ago - I had decided to travel for a year - that year turned into 10, and I am now living and working in Zambia, still with my beloved Suzuki (the only red car in the village)!
I wonder if anyone can advise me on the following carburettor problem: a few of the smaller parts (throttle rod and springs) are not working well. I'm having trouble finding individual parts so investigated buying a new Suzuki carburettor (£1,000 ... gulp). Where can I find a good second hand carb for this model?
I've heard that it is possible to put a toyota carburettor in - is this true? Does anyone know what model? There are lots of Toyotas in Zambia - this may be an easier option.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help or advise me.

Hi Most people over here change to SU hif 44 carbs for the 1.3, or a Webber carb

Hey, I've not heard of people using Toyota carbs.
There's a link to a thread here that discusses a few different options. You might find something more plentiful in your country there? The Nikki from a Beetle prehaps?

Is it definitely running a carb and not fuel injection? In most countries the samurai was upgraded to single-point fuel injection around 1994

The Subaru Justy has a G13 engine in it (or my friend's did, at least) so makes sense that the carb would just bolt right up. Would probably be correctly tuned too - more or less.
Perhaps the Pony/Charade also have G13's?

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I will investigate them all.
It is interesting that none of you advise buying the parts and replacing them, so obviously just better to replace the whole thing.
Where is the best place to buy these replacement carbs in the UK?

If you're going to replace the whole carb, then I'd say your best bet is to go with a Webber. SU's were popular on british cars, which is why we have plenty of them - I don't think they'll be easy to get parts for in Zambia. Webber is international, you're more likely to get parts for the new carb if you have problems in the future.

Alternatively, you could probably get a whole G16 engine with fuel injection out of a Baleno *and* have it fitted for less than £1000.
I think you're best off with the Webber, but that's just my opinion.

The reason no one has suggested buying the individual parts is because they aren't easy to find and it's unlikely there's a UK supplier.
This is why most people swap the carbs for something that parts are more commonly available for.

The original carbs are also garbage, not worth spending time, money or effort rebuilding. Which is why we all change themScottieJ wrote: to club UK
