1999 Vitara standard Transmission help

Post by summnik » Sat Jan 23, 2016 1:19 am

Hi All I'm a newbie here and I need your help.
I have a 1999 Vitara 4x4 2.0l 5 speed standard 3 door tin top 136000 miles.
Last week my transmission broke so here is my question.
all my gears are good except the countershaft and input shaft. I cant find a 4x4 transmission or a countershaft to buy. I have looked for a tracker and vitara. I can find the input shaft so what I need to no is!
If I take the counter shaft of a 2002 Vit 2.0l 2wd use it with all my gears will it work? I don't want to buy it and it not work. The 2wd trans look the same bell housing are the same to trans input shaft bearing retainer plat look the same not sure about measurements yet.
You think it possible to convert 2wd to 4wd by changing the back or tranny or the countershaft and gears to my main shaft ect?
They tell me the only transmission that will fit it is a 99-03 vit 2.0l 5 speed.
I just can't believe that they only made one trans for one vehicle.
Any one no of a way to fix my Vit a Transmission swap or work around or interchange or anything that will help.
thanks for all the input.

Where are you? If you are in the UK I've probably got a spare transfer box I can see you if that's what you need?

Sorry I'm in the us. I cant find any help or parts here. There are plenty of A.T. an 2wd trans but not 4wd. So I thought some of you Guy's might no if 2wd an 4wd Transmission countershaft are the same. Could you ask around see if anyone there might no. Just trying to find a way to fix my Vit.
Thanks for the reply.
