Viscus fan on vit engine?

Post by jack_seal » Sat Jan 16, 2016 8:01 pm

Bought a vitara engine the other week, (new to suzukis) when I picked it up it was still sat in the vitara. Only realised yesterday all the other ones I see don't have viscus fans on and mine does? Should I be worried?
Cheers

Depends what kind of vitara engine.

My 8v 1.6 is on a viscous fan.

Probably was retrofitted with an electric fan. Personally I would have removed the stock fan and put electric ones on, better for wading and might save yourself half a horsepower ;)

Also, there is no need to post the same thing 3 times

Did it post 3 times? Only once to me. My bad.. So viscus fan is alright then I don't need to worry that it's not a vitara engine.

You just want to check the viscous fan's clutch to make sure it locks when it heats up, otherwise you wont get enough cooling
Roll up a newspaper and poke it (carefully) into the spinning fan with the engine at operating temperature... if you can stop the fan with the newspaper, the fan clutch is broken

Mine had a viscous fan on it, but removed it and installed a electric one.
Cheers
