What to do with some rot?
I've been picking around the vit latley amd found a few holes.
I knew the rear of the boot floor was rotten when I first bought it but a couple more places have been found.
Has anyone got any idea how much id be looking to pay to get these welded up? I would get my father in law to do it but id feel bad if its like a few ££ worth of work because he never charges me even if i give him money he gives it back!
So we got

And this in.the drivers footwell
Probably is something and nothing, I litterally know nothing about welding apart from that I want to learn it!!.
If anyone knows what its worth give or take let me know, and if someone in or close to Bristol fancies welding it up for me get in touch!

Buy yourself a welder, you own a 4x4 you will need it again

However it shouldn't take too long to sort that as long as it doesn't go too far when you start chasing it.

I would happily buy a welder if I had electric in the garage, or if I could park the thing somewhere over a few days while I played around with one and got to grips with it!
I've chased the holes back as far as it stopped flaking, they were tiny holes at first then I.just poked at them haha!
Like I said I could get father in law to sort it, he does stuff like this day in day out but he doesn't except £££ and if its something that is expensive I feel bad asking. He done the cambelt and water pump on my bora tdi (150 pd engine) supplyed and fitted for free. I felt so bad just driving off after he wouldn't take anything for it haha!

If those holes are as small as they seem, and they certainly aren't near any seat belt anchorage areas..I'd grind the lot down, kill the rust (don't forget underneath) then fibreglass and fill it. That's if you don't have a welder!

I don't know what it's like down your way but getting someone to weld something can be a real PITA, I wanted to get the garage to weld my sills and arches, he wouldn't give me a definite price and didn't really want the work, another garage I asked said '1k maybe 2k' - no thank you! If your father in law is good at welding let him do it. Cheap welders will not be the best and as they don't make much money on it, will probably rush it to turn it out quick, you see plenty of stories about half assed welders who tack and gobbo things together - it looks ok from the outside but isn't structurally sound. Say if your father in laws good at least you know you can trust him to do it right, and if he won't take your money, next time you visit put it in an envelope and tuck it behind his clock on the mantle piece as you leave,

I did think about fibre glassing them, I use it at work when we do new flat roofs, but I was afraid someone might point the finger haha!

no doubt half the trucks on here are cobbled together with fibreglass haha.

Fibreglass does not have any place in steel body repairs.
