Re: Kawazonkey
Almost finished...exhaust now fits, finally. The new carb is on but I did have a bastard moment trying to get the adapter plate off the old, seized solid, engine. All the oil and fuel pipes are plumbed in so now it's just wire it up and fix the tank, then MOT time!

Re: Kawazonkey
I know it's got to go green like the rest of the bike, but it's almost a shame you don't buff it up and then clearcoat it as is...

Re: Kawazonkey
An idea but I want this back to standard, worth a lot more like that!
Change of pace and back to the race bike...rear wheel to my amazement has been powder coated and a good clean was all it needed. The disc needed a bit of paint...and the seat unit is almost done. Getting the old foam off was a pain..

Re: Kawazonkey
Last race of the season is early september so I plan to make it. The front wheel has 5 layers of paint on it, I gave up with paint stripper and it's going to be shot blasted. The seat unit and tank are done, they will have a red stripe down the centre a la TZ of old. Rear wheel is fine just needs a lick of paint. The exhausts were painted black but underneath is gleaming chrome so the paint is coming off. Rear sets have had a trial fit and some brackets need making up, they did need the mounting points drilling out a bit but now they fit flush. Need some coils and then I can finally start that rebuilt engine. Running in? Hmm...

Re: Kawazonkey
Finally got the throttle/oil pump cables on only to discover the oil pump is shagged, so on the hunt for a new one. I could run it without using a 25/1 premix...
Made a temporary bracket for the tacho and cabled that too, and the original forks have been restored. The chrome is a bit pitted but it's not having a MOT so who cares?

Re: Kawazonkey
Have you checked the bore? a little lose used to be the order of the day. The RD production boys used to thrash them from rebuilt, if it nipped up they just cleaned up the bore with coarse wet and dry, chucked in some new rings and went back out again. When it stopped nipping up the clearances were correct.donkeychomp wrote:Running in? Hmm...

You might care if you end up with fork oil on your tyres - those pits have a tendency to damage the seals.donkeychomp wrote:The chrome is a bit pitted but it's not having a MOT so who cares?
Whereabouts is the first race? it might be worth a day out, you can't beat a good club event for value for money.

Re: Kawazonkey
The last race is October 2/3/4th at Snetterton (Norfolk). Practice 2/3, race on the 4th.
The engine is as new, completely rebuilt new shells, pistons, rings etc. Hopefully practice day one will let me get it kinda run in!
