Unlock your free wheeling hubs, make sure all wheel bearings are in good condition, check tyre inflation, clean up the spark plugs, make sure your air filter is good....

Get a friend to push you down the road instead of using the engine ;)

You dont mention what MPG you are getting at the moment ?? the trouble is you are never going to get mind blowing fuel consumptions out a vehicle like the SJ,its not shaped like concord more like a flying wardrobe and with the gearing from a 1.3 engine albeit they are light cars but MPG is neve going to be a SJ best selling feature.

I have a V6 2.0ltr in my Vitara LWB but because i dont have to rev it as much as say a 1.3 SJ i get some pretty MPG out of it if i take it easy. But if i gun it off from the traffic light then of course it will knock the MPG down big time, but its rare these days that i turn into a boy racer.

On average i find that i can run mine on just £20 a week and that is every day shopping and out on sundays when i take it off road hunting/fishing/shooting and detecting.

What are you getting? If I see 25mpg+ from an SJ I'm happy  should see around 28average in a 410 if it's in a good state of tune

There isn't that much benefit to fitting an su to a 410 as the standard carb is pretty good anyway.
For a 413 it's a different story as those carbs are mostly crap

I get an accurate (speedo matches GPS) 26 mpg on average from mine.. But here there are no motorways so it's all 40mph or less driving.. I got 30" muds and no 5th gear.. Pretty happy with that :)

Ah interesting guess then i'm best off rebuilding one of my 410 carbs then, i think i'm getting around 20mpg out of my 410 at the mo but it does smell as if its running rich air mixture ain't something i wanna mess with cause i realise that you can mess an engine up pretty quick if ya get it wrong. Thanks for all ya help guys.

I'll see about checking timing and sorting air mixture cause the idea is that i might drive it to college one day a week so i wanna be getting the best mpg for 24 miles there and back.

Sounds like it needs a good tune up, I used to thrash the shit out of mine when it had the 1l and still see around 25mpg.
