job for a welder

whos gonna make me a cradle to mount a motorbike engine in my 410 :D intend to attatch cog on bike engine to SJ gearbox.... open for suggestions etc..... discuss!

do you take your sj offroad a lot then a bike engine isn't really a good option. You need torque in an offroader and bike engines dont do torque! They are all revs and you will probably find them far to underpowered if using large wheels.

bike engines only work well in minis and kit cars because they are so light and on road you can rev the tits out of them. when off road you dont want to be at high revs and need the torque low down in the rev range.

the royal enfield 'diesel' use two different types of engine, the first is 325cc with 6.5hp and the second is 436cc with 7.5hp

the lohmann cycle motor engine is 18cc with about 0.7hp, althought the engine will run on diesel It is 2 stroke so requires oil,

So out of all the diesel motorbike engines for an SJ I surmise that non are really suitable because the hps are just too low. Although the lohmann would certainly making an interesting replacement for the sj engine, you would have to mount a bicycle wheel to the imput shaft on the gearbox, and then mount the engine with the roller drive to the side of it, I think the >1hp may hinder the performance a bit

i was exactly thinking the enfield.... sorry its not royal anymore becuase they are built in india!!!

i used to work at an Enfield dearlship about 3 years ago.

the cycle motor soundslike the old cycle master... bicycle with a motor stuck on the wheel....

the only bike engine i might CONSIDER would be a V format.. i have a honda VFR750... its pretty torqy but again a bike is VERY light..... SV1000 maybe abit better... again..... bikes are light...

if you get your hands on a harley lump 1300cc or more with it V format it might be a bit better.. but it will need tuning as they are fookin gutless detuned tractors.... 'west coast customs?' east coast tractors more like....

or put TWO BUELL lumps in the back. nuff said. let the welder have a fit trying to work that one out.

well your right the 'new' ones are enfield (used to be indian enfield) but the diesel engenes are retro fitted to the old frames,I don't think they do these conversions any more though,

your right if you were dead set on using a motorbike engine a harley engine would have a quite alot of torque for a motorbike engine,

personally though I think the best engine for the job would be the hyabusa 1.3 engine, I know the engine is rev mad but with 150-160bhp and torque of 93lb/ft @ 7000rpm compared to the sj original (sammy) 63bhp and torque of 73lb/ft @ 3500rpm,

It would probably manage,

haha. i busa lump with turbo n super charger maybe... again though... too revving.... reving the nuts out of things facing up a hill would make me nervious!

harley engines are air cooled... wouldnt work... a beull would be better... liquid cooled race tuned harley engine that it is... but.. if you had a buell engine in an SJ.. think you might find the engine missing after parked over night...


how about a rotary engine? smaller lighter but as equally powerful??? not like them old matchless bikes... but more then mazda rx8

I personally think that if you want a modern,faster engine in your suzuki then you should go for a 1.6 16v suzuki baleno lump and supercharge it with an eaton m45 :mrgreen:
