Hi guys!
haven't posted much
currently in the process of making my 410 into a pick up
was wondering if a vitara back door would be suitable to weld into the back?
i know perfectly a samurai tin top back door is perfect but a guy up the road is breaking a vitara
if anyone has done this any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Re: pickup conversion
Measure the rear window - I doubt it'll fit, Vitaras are wider than SJ's.
1985 SJ413VX (SJ50V) with SPOA, rear disc brakes, 31x10.5R15 Kaiman Malatesta tyres, an MOT and a lot left to do!

Re: pickup conversion
My advice is
Don't do it!! I went down the pick up route, it sucked and I soon got fed up with a lack of dry storage space so fitted a fastback. Loads better now I can actually put stuff in the back and keep it dry.

Re: pickup conversion
I am just about to embark on a pickup Vitara project.
I am having metal sheet welded in (I can't and have never welded)
A Horse box side window, with slide opening, also going in.
This weekend I will start to strip out the inside of all the plastic trim.
(if anyone needs anything plse ask along with rear seats and belts)
Pictures of progress will be going up.
it is going to be 95% for green lanes pay n play days.
with the odd trip to work and back to keep it ticking over.
Have a winch bumper ready to go on. (except for painting)
Rear lights will be moving up into the body so I can remove / replace rear bumper.

Re: pickup conversion
Alternatively something like I did. A pick up conversion, then plated off the rear tub in two halfs, fixed half up to the cab and a flap for the back half, this meant i could keep the spare and tyre/petrol can on the solid bit, and waffle boards on the flap bit. Two latches meaning it could be padlocked shut.
It kept everything dry but used some storage boxes in there to be safe.
Then made a custom tail gate to replace the old rear door.

Looks good!
What did metal did you use? How thick?
i just needed to know if vitara door would go in nice before i bought it but said yes now having delivered tmro
Not to fussed about dry storage anyhow always got the passenger seat and footwell!
Have had a measure up and seems like the vitara door will fit providing I got given the correct measurements and if not I will make it fit
And even if it doesn't work it's only £20 for the door delivered so can't go wrong really!
Will post pictures once done
Currently have two pages of mot failures to fix!
