GV1600 54 Plate, Wheel Skipping
Hi Guys,
I recently got a GV1600 Sport 3dr and it appears that when on full lock in 2wd the front drivers side wheel will skip along. Has anyone seen this before or maybe knows where I should start to look??
Thanks

Could be a tracking issues maybe? might be a good idea to get the alignment checked.
Re: GV1600 54 Plate, Wheel Skipping
It is going in for new tires tomorrow, I have heard that alternate tread patterns can cause different traction and it appears whoever had it before me wasn't worried about matching the tires up.
Whilst its in I will get them to check the tracking.

I'd mention it to the tyre fitters. They can give the wheel a wiggle to check all the bearings and ball joints out. It should be fairly obvious then what the problem is.

They had a jiggle and a poke, seems all is fine mechanically.
From the limited time driving with the new tires it appears to have solved the problem, I will need to do some further testing though.

Tested and it appears to be sorted.

This is very weird as I'd have thought that in 2wd, the difference in traction between one tyre and another wouldn't really matter that much unless in an emergency braking situation or something - but since you sorted it with new tyres, it seems to be true! You live, you learn!souleh wrote:I have heard that alternate tread patterns can cause different traction
For safety's sake, it's probably best to have good, well matched tyres on it anyway.

I literally looked a right pudding testing it out at the car park at work

Re: GV1600 54 Plate, Wheel Skipping
The outside wheel turns a different radius to the inside. All cars do this when at full lock but its more noticeable with slightly chunkier tyres and a bit more weight. Hence the squealing in multistory carparks.

If the tracking is correct then you should have the correct ackerman angle and shouldn't get any tyre scrub.
