Will this engine fit??

Post by Fwb2700 » Sun Dec 07, 2014 5:16 am

I can't seem to find much on these motors so just wondering how hard it would be to put this in my 410??

Can I use my 410 4speed box? Looks like a good engine

Is this a good engine and worth fitting it?

How difficult will the conversion be?
Any idea on cost of parts?

That's a j20a.

Ideally you need to get a modified g16 flywheel and vitara gearbox to run one. You'll also need to modify the gearbox slightly to mate it to your transfer box and you'll need transmissionn tunnel mods for that.

Trail tough do a kit to mate it to the 1.3 gearbox but personally I'm not sure I would want to do that as you only have the option of a small clutch with twice the standard bhp and torque going through the clutch and gearbox.

And it's not cheap

But yes it's possible...it's a lot of work however I'm putting one in an LJ80 next year

Is it worth the effort or can I get a better engine with more bang for my buck? Eg something better cheaper?

there's no replacement for displacement

Easier option would be a g16...best to go for the 16v but you will still need at least a 413 gearbox, flywheel and clutch etc.

Is the J20a worth the effort? Well the engine goes really well in a grand vitara so knock off a few hundred KG from the vehicle weight and it will fly in an SJ.

It's over 3x the power of the 970cc
2x the power of the 1.3
Around 30hp more than the 1.6 16v

If you have the patience, skills, time and money to fit it then I think it will be worth it.

I bought a complete grand vitara so that I had everything that I need for mine.

Now I need to decide. Engine seems to be a good price. That's tge reason I am asking. Still got a lot of fabrication to go first so might wait for another bargain. Really need to look into upgrading cvs and axles first as I really want 33 aimed extreme truckers II

You'll also need the wiring loom. Plus a matching ecu, immobiliser and ignition barrel/keys as they will all be coded together. You can get them coded to match though.

It could end up a bit pricey after all that and the transmission parts needed for the conversion, that's why I bought a rusty mot failed GV2000 so that o had everything, plus breaking it made my money back so I essentially got the engine and transmission for free :doublethumbs:

Uprated axle internals will be needed with the torque of the j20a and 33s!

Ahh ecu etc. yeah I give up then different engine it is. Something simple that doesn't need a ecu

Just to poke my head in here, there IS an alternative for a 410, that should be pretty easy to do.

A Suzuki Alto 1.1 engine (F10D) is more or less the same engine as the F10A that an SJ 410 has, but fuel injected with a 16 valve head. It should drop in and bolt stright up to your engine mounts and gearbox and give you 50% more power and potentially as much as a 50% improvement in fuel consumption.

Planning to do this myself as soon as I can afford it. Right now, I can barely keep the old girl on the road.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
