Lights staying on sj

Working on my brothers sj and it's been fine until recently when the lights have just decided to stay on, I have traced the wiring (red/white, top/middle/horizontal tab of the h4 bulb) and can't find any shorts in the bay or beyond, the indicator stalk with the switch on it can be disconnected and they stay on, to me something must have burnt out to chaffed through for it to do this, there is a small black box with Cooling fins next to the fuse box and if I pull th plug the lights go out bit unsure if it is to do with lighting, any common faults on these?

Yep, just leave it unplugged.
I assume it's a Spanish built model with a fuse board under the glovebox.

Yes, it's a lwb not sure on where it was made, will the lights still work with this unplugged, can't check I foolishly stripped the light stalk to check and there's no way that going back together, need to find one

Yes they should work fine.
That unit sounds like the dip-dim box and renowned for screwing up.

Spanish ones have a square stalk, Jap ones are round.

The switch controls are different, I don't think they are interchangeable but don't know for sure.
