Hey Peeps,
I've had my 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara 5dr 2.0L Diesel for just 2 weeks now and i'm having an issue with the Engine management light coming on then the car going into what i think is some sort of limp mode and loses power. I've had it plugged and it's coming up with a number of fault codes. as the following….
P0230 Fuel Pump Circuit A
0380-Glow Plug Relay- Which I've replaced
0191-Rail Pressure Sensor signal improbable
0230-Solenoid-operated shut-off (ELAB) signal improbable
The engine management light will be on for some time and then it will just go out and i will regain normal power output. I've replaced the glow plug relay and the fuel filter and i really don't want to take it to a Suzuki garage where they're not going to know much and just throw guesses at it at my excessive expense!
I love this truck but i'm pulling my hair out trying to find whats wrong with it.
If anyone could please throw some idea my way. Maybe somebody has had the same problem? Look forward to hearing from you
Seb

Re: Engine Management Light-Loss of power
I've just pulled these after a bit of Google-ing
P0230 means there's a problem with the low pressure side of your fuel system (low pressure pump and output pressure) however the vehicle apparently doesn't directly sense this, but rather extrapolates it from the fuel rail and regulator duty cycle.
P0380 is related to the Glow Plug and may indicate that the Glow Plug Controller is stuck and will likely need to be replaced.
P0191 means your ECU thinks that the fuel rail pressure was outside expected parameters.
P0230 means the vehicle is detecting a fault with the fuel high pressure regulator.
Based on that my best guess is that your low pressure fuel pump might be knackered. That would mean the rest of the system wasn't getting enough diesel and so it has to go into 'limp' mode just to run.
That said, I'm not an expert; I'm just a dip stick with google.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Engine Management Light-Loss of power
You really need to get a fuel pressure gauge on to it to find out where the issue lies.
