G,day, im looking to increase the power in my Lj80 800cc engine . I've added Nulon engine treatment which has made a possitive noticeable difference, apart from the air filter and exhaust what are some other basic mods that wont cost alot.also im after a wider stance(offset wheels etc) i will be using 31 inch tyres i think atm.any help from people that have actually done these mods will be great.cheers Glen

you might be able to slightly advance the timing. just gotta be careful not to do it too much otherwise the engine will start pinking and you be in trouble. my sj has been advanced by about 12 degrees, that's the absolute limit I would take it.

Forget the 800 lump, get rid of it and fit a 1litre lump from an SJ. Every Lj I have had, the first job has been to get rid of the 800 lump, it is loads better and is more a less a straight swap. I know this seems to cause a bit of controvesy on the site cos its not original (you can always swap it back anyway). But believe it ain't worth spending anytime trying to get more power out of the 800 lump. I had the same SJ unit in 4 different LJ's, I kept refitting the old 800 lump when I sold them on and it used to really P*** me off If I didn't have time to swap the 1 litre lump into an LJ as soon as I bought it.

what Junco partner said ;)

It's practically the same engine anyway, if you bore out the F8a block you can fit the f10a crank and pistons (con-rods are the same) and it will turn it into a 970cc ;)

Much easier to just throw a complete f10 in though.

Im not adverse to fitting bigger engines, although I'd probably go the whole way and convert to 1300

(Then there's the possibility to go 1600 later on) ;)

That involves a LOT of work on an LJ and cutting into the transmission tunnel to fit the 1.3 gearbox, then you need to make custom mounts etc. Not something I'd want to do to an LJ

Funny you calling that a lot of work :P
Depends on the condition of the LJ I suppose, most ones you see are pretty rotten on the floorpan so if that's the case it might be worth doing though!
Worth considering if you have to redo the floorpan anyway...

I just would rather keep/restore an LJ as close to stock as possible instead of cutting it up. plus the trans tunnels never seem to rot out, only the floors around them

I just think a 1.6 16v LJ would be well worth it... you'd be able to surprise a lot of people pulling away from traffic lights ;)
