Car won't start at the moment. When you turn the key the starter engages but then nothing happens. If you engage it then run a suppy from the battery to the starter it will start fine! Any idea's? A wiring problem?

probably a fracture in the wiring, i had a push button start on mine i replaced the starter motor and then found out it was the contacts on the switch it was yours sounds like a fracture in the wires.

If i was you id get a electrical spade crimp and then some small gauge wire and plug it on the s post of the starter and put the ignition on in the car and with the wire just dab it on the battery should fire.

If it's the common clicky starter problem, it's easy enough to sort out.
However I don't know if its a breakdown of the wiring or the start switch
that causes this problem.

Darrel when I need to start it I run a wire from the battery to C on your diagram!

is your battery terminal on tight and have a good connection?

My starter solenoid sometimes clicks but doesn't start the engine, can the solenoid be cleaned or improved or does it have to be replaced?

Going by that the ignition switch and small wire is OK, as it energises the solenoid.
The solenoid is putting the gear in the flywheel but not making the large electrical connection
needed to start it.
It is possible that the large positive supply wire is broken or not connected properly, but unlikely.
I would remove the starter and bench test it to rule out any of the wiring before getting a replacement starter.
I have not found anybody in the UK who will supply new solenoids and you can't
get into the solenoid switch part.
However if the solenoid is tight it may not move fully back to make a connection.
A strip and clean can often cure it if you've been playing in deep muddy water.

If the solenoid clicks but the engine doesn't turn usually that means either your actual starter is knacked or, more likely, the battery isn't giving it enough juice.

Its the small starter wire that's the problem! They seem to go skanky and lose the ability to carry much power!

Do as Darrell says and put in a relay for the starter, and your problems will disappear!
