im wanting to diesel my Suzuki samurai and been thinking of a few options.
vauxhall/isuzu 1.7 turbo engine out of a combo or cavalier
or a peugeot 306 1.9 d turbo or a 2.0ltr hdi 306 engine.

i can pick a 306 d turbo engine up fairly cheap and was just wanting to know what gearbox i should use. or adaptor plate.

my mates got a vauxhall combo 1.7 turbo engine in his suzuki samurai so would be easy copying wiring etc.. anyone know of any cheap diesel conversions please let me know or any advice thanks rob

Out of those two I'd go for the 1.7td.

If you really must make your SJ a DERV though there's another option. If you can find a Carlton diesel somewhere, you could use the engine and gearbox from that. I know people use Carlton gearboxes when doing C20XE/C20LET/X20XEV conversions so surely you could transplant the whole engine and gearbox from a 2.3TD Carlton. If you do go the Carlton route, you're after a 23DTR engine ideally.

It's been said a million times though, diesel engines are too heavy for SJs. I've driven one with a G16 Vitara conversion and ridden in half a dozen more and they have plenty of poke, grunt and oomph.

Got to agree with Ed there, diesel engines are way to heavy and the fuel is the work of Satan himself.

Diesel is for trucks and family cars.

Petrol is the power of fun! (Unless you happen to have something running on Methanol)
