Early MOT question

Post by timwilks13 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 3:28 pm

My MOT is valid till november, however due to the engine, lights, brake changes etc, i was considering putting it through early, as in now, just to find out what will need doing. If it fails its early MOT but the old one is still valid, am i still fully MOT'd, or does the new fail over rule the existing MOT? few people i have asked come back with different responses, so thought i would see what you all think/know?

i know thats the case if you get it done a month before, then they continue your mot on from its original expiry date, just never come across anyone that has done one 3 months early!

I'm saying NO!

To preserve the anniversary of your MOT you can not MOT it more than 30 days before expiry. I interperet that as any MOT done before the 30 days over rules any existing MOT.

If your worried about anything take to a garage for a pre-MOT inspection.

ill go ring the garage and see what they say, i wont bother if thats the case as i know it will fail and i dont have the time really to fix it up in 10 days, especially if it fails bad. which then begs the question why i am driving it if i know its not safe lol!

If it fails then the old MOT is no longer valid - it makes sense really as its just been determined to be defective. (I just had a three hour trip home from the MOT station without the Bongo!)
I wonder if the DVLA system will let you MOT it that early.

Just drive it until the MOT is due! If theres anything that needs attention then fix it and then if everything that you have changed works then what's there to worry about?
