I went to get some lunch this afternoon, all of a sudden steering went very hard. Pulled over and red liquid all over the floor, further investigation i have now discovered the metal hose that runs under the radiator has ruptured and leaked all my power steering fluid out. Replacement is going to take a couple of weeks from Japan, i cannot live without my car for that long. Seen a few sites saying cut the belt and save the pump, but then the battery wont charge? Is it worth it in the short term? Can the pipe be repaired? replaced with some form of rubber hose? welded? Need help before the morning as i have to go to work???
Cheers
Adrian

Depending on where abouts you are in the world. I would go to your local hydraulic company and see what they can do if not ring around a few breakers yard or on ebay. I know scottieJ on here is breaking a grand vit but I dont know what year it is or if the parts are compatible

I had a flexi made up full spec high pressure hydraulic hose for £10 at my local plant and machinery place.

Pirtek are generally good but usually quite expensive.

this is the fastening between the rubber hose and the metal pipe.

Confused.
The left arrow is pointing at a high pressure pipe. The big arrow on the right is pointing at a low pressure pipe.

Anything with a jubilee or spring clip is low pressure.
All the pipe with the machine pressed fittings that can't be undone are high pressure.

the arrow on the right is supposed to be pointing at the metallic block behind the pipe, that i am assuming is the pump.
