So not had my sj long and paid good mony for it wanted a soild one the bak axel oil seal needs replaceing is this a big job and what mods would you lot recomend its fuel injected

do you mean the diff oil seal or the oil seals at the ends of the axle?

Mods all depends on budget and what you intend to use it for.

A good first mod is some 215 MT tyres. If the arches are rotten a virtual lift is easy enough. Snorkel?
Some good recovery points. CB radio,

As you've confirmed it's Chris' old SJ, I'd recommend going out for a play in it first. I went to Parkwood 4x4 at Tong, near Bradford with him once, and it was a very capable SJ. Most mods are 'cos we want it to look a bit better and because we enjoy doing the mods.

The performance of SJ's even in standard form is pretty impressive.

Its injection, so no carb issues.

Only real mods to contemplate are suspension and tyres. Bigger tyres need lower gearing and more power.

Bigger tyres put more stress on axles so full float and strengthened axles.

Armour? Bumpers, diffs, transmission, roll cage?

Take it for a play a few times and see what you personally want to improve.

The skys the limit it just depends on whats your limit. Like time, money wise, how mental you want to go etc

Cheers its solid all the way few small rust spots on body thats it and its leaking oil out end of axle where the outer seal is

i would give it a good service change all oils etc

then like above guys have said take it out and see i found a few things that i need to do to my already kitted up disco at a pay and play site that i didn't relies when green laning

your on the best forum for sj's the members on here are really help full helped me out loads already

regarding the oil seal, they cost next to nothing, and are really easy to replace, may take a novice a few hours, but is easy enough. just take off the drum, take off the back plate, pop all the parts off the axle, might need a slide hammer to get the half shaft out, take out the oil seal, and repeat in reverse order
