I'm planning on stripping my front and rear bumper one day back to bare metal
As there is a few scratches and and is showing bare metal at the moment
I plan is to give it 3 coats of primer and then 2 coats of gloss black as I have 3/4 if a tin of that as my dad sprayed his whinch bumper
I will use a spray gun to paint them in a proper spray shop
What's the best primer to get for my bumpers they are 50x100 box section mild steel
Is red oxide good
Is there any other good primers

Na I dont want them powder coated
I can spray them my self for free (just got to pay for primer )
I need to get hold of some good primer
As I have some cheap toolstation grey metal primer but not enough to paint my bumpers

Hi zinc content grey primer.
The zinc has good rust prevention properties

Bonda !!
The best primer you can buy.
Used by all top body shops in high en restorations. It has the highest zinc content of any primer.
It's amazing. Get it of eBay. Don't waste your time with etch, all that does is eat away at the metal.
Bonda, bonda, bonda !!
Trust me
You can brush paint it or spray it. It's weld through too. It's awesome as you weld it the paint doesn't fall of or flake, it actually goes into the weld. It's weard stuff !!

I'm, not sure if I agree with mike. I personally use etch primer, just a thin base layer, then use a good zinc based primer over that, a few good coats, and then spray my top coats on. works really well, and the etch primer absolutely doesn't come off if the metal is clean

Bare metal i would use the highest content zinc primer i can find. When i get round to painting mine im gonna use something similar to the paint mike suggested.
Using the etch primer first isn't a bad idea, that is designed to adhere to the bare metal better than normal primer / top coat.

My mate works in a top end body's hop, they do restorations on very high end cars, for restorations and repairs on older cars they use this stuff.
It's what I used on my suzuki and it's very good.
My dad uses it it on all the jeeps he has sprayed. But I am only really recommending this from a vehicle that's been shot blasted or acid dipped. As my sj was...
But it is ver very good stuff...
But I am not going to start an argument
What ever floats your boat
