Hi,

My friend said I can have his mk1 Midas for next project....
I found out that there are only 56 or so of this model left in the world!
So, what do I do? I plan to cut it up and make it into a RWD turbo charged J engined car.

All I can do for the moment is to collect spare parts I will need.
Here goes my parts list.

Well, the car will be the first I think.


Engine I'm using Swift Gti 1300cc 16v.



Clutch plate and pressure plate.




Turbo manifold I have made for it. It will be using saab 900 T2/GT2 turbo.


It will have rear disc brakes, too.



I'm getting bell housing modified by a machine shop and photo before.

Hi,

I have been busy with my work but meanwhile, my mate has been busy on behalf.
He has finished welding bell housing of Swift Gti to a Volvo 360 torque tube adaptor.




I can start to measure few other bits with this item now!

A RWD turbo Midas is going to be a flaming mad brilliant killing machine.

Why a J engine though, when you've got a GTI engine? And I'm assuming that the torque tube straight off the engine is so you can put a fwd gearbox/transaxle setup at the back, between the rear wheels? If so, I'm really liking the idea.

I have 3-4 Gti engines and I know how good these engines are.
My gearbox setup is like Porsche 944. Front mounted engine and gearbox at the rear.




I measured that position of the rear prop shaft is 158mm from the flange to the gearbox.
I can dry fit them and see how much I need to cut but I either have to cut Suzuki splines to the prop shaft or weld my spare input shaft onto this prop.

It's a kit car to start with though, so there isn't any one specific standard I don't think. You get Lancia kit cars with all sorts of engines for example.

Yes, it's a kit car and tax free as an original car was older than '74.
I think you build it to what you want and be unique. I wanted to build a mini Porsche 944.
Is that a good enough reason!? I hope so.

Plenty good enough for me. I'd love to see some video of this thing when it's finished. Should be a fantastic little pocket rocket. High revving turbo screamer in a lightweight rear drive. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a drift or drag racer depending on how you set it up.
