Fluid leak around rear axle/brake drum?
Hi
I have been fortunate enough to receive some great assistance on this forum so far so thought I'd see if anyone can help me shed some light on this problem too!
I just noticed that my SJ now appears to be leaking...
You can see from the attached image that it appears to be leaking fluid from the point I have circled in red, it doesn't seem to be a huge amount but certainly enough that I need to resolve the problem
Rather than take it all apart, find out whats wrong, then order the parts and wait for them to turn up, I'd rather order the parts in advance and do the whole job in one go so I can get out on the weekend!
Does anyone have an suggestions as to what might be causing this? Maybe it's a common problem someones aware of and I can just replace a simple seal? If not then I'll just have to start taking things apart later.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

My wheel looked like that last night copper pipe broke just before it entered the drum and sprayed every where
What is it oil or brake fluid
Could be the oil seal
Or
It could be the cylinder seals have gone best take the wheel and drum off and have a look

yeah, take the drum apart, could be an axle seal, or could be the wheel cylinder. best way is to open up and have a nosy, shouldn't take too long
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out
Re: Fluid leak around rear axle/brake drum?
Mine did the same and it was the oil seal also, like the lads say strip it down

Re: Fluid leak around rear axle/brake drum?
That's great, thanks for the quick replies!
It smells suspiciously like diff oil so hopefully it's just that seal.
I'll pull it apart and have a look.
From looking at this really useful post:

I'm guessing this is probably this part that I want to be ordering:
Oil seal 09283-48007

Bit late, but looking at the quantity i'm going with oil seal. Possibly brake cylinder though.

@Jordi - Never too late, thanks for the input.
To my surprise my local Suzuki dealership can get me the oil seals over night for about £4 so I'm going to get them in and then start pulling things apart.
I think I must be pretty close to having replaced every single bearing, seal and fluid on this SJ now, pretty soon it's going to be in the same condition it would have been 20 years ago!

I have front bearings and diff bearings to go. Other than that its a full set throughout!
Makes a helluva difference!

Re: Fluid leak around rear axle/brake drum?
If the oil seal has failed, chances are there will be play in the wheel bearing as well so might be worth just doing the whole lot, jack it up and give the wheel a wobble and check for play. bearing kits come with a new oil seal.
