Alternator Please Help
Alternator Please Help
OK so here we go put a 413 engine into the 410 offroader and I have some wireing issues they are as follows.
413 Alternator rectangle plug
2 big White/Yellow Tracer Wires
1 Thinner White/Red Tracer Wire
Nothing on Spade Terminal with "B" On it this is how it was connected to engine.
410 Santana Wiring loom to alternator as follows
1 round ring connector connected to "B" on alternator going to loom/ battery.
3 Pin plug with :-
Black going to E
White/Green Tracer going to F
White/Black Tracer going to N
Question is any thoughts on how to connect 413 Alternator/Engine to 410 Loom????

Re: Alternator Please Help
The early 410 alternator has an external voltage regulator.
The 413 alternator has a built in regulator.
So I would disconnect the voltage regulator.
Connect the large wire W/BL to either of the large spade connections (I believe they are joined ?).
Connect the small spade connection to the W/R wire from the old regulator (dash light)
I think that's it, but would like other peoples thoughts on this
The original 410 alternator only put out 35amps* and that type 413 only puts out 40amps* so cable size should be OK.
(*according to my information)
Anybody done this conversion that can confirm this

Re: Alternator Please Help
All the 410s I've messed around with have been the later ones without the external voltage regulator and are wired up like your second diagram Darrell
Basically just wire it up as you would a standard Sj 413 is wired up after disconnecting it. the colours before the voltage regulator are the same.

Re: Alternator Please Help
That alternator does not have a switched live, unlike the ones with the round plug.

Re: Alternator Please Help
The black w/white tracer is the switched live isn't it?
I just noticed you don't have that on your diagram though? Doesn't the rectangle plug on the 413 have a black w/white tracer and a white w/red tracer? Then the two thick white and yellow ones should go to the B+ on the alternator? That's how my 1.6 is wired up and I'm pretty sure that's how my Lwb is wired up but will check.

Switched Live ???
So are you saying there should be a white/black wire going to alternator ??
Also where is the Voltage Regulator ?
So I can find wire from regulator and extend down to alternator and ignor all other wires ???

Re: Alternator Please Help
I have found a pic of the rectangular connection type.
Shows the large W/Y wires and just a white/red for the dash light.

OK what about the white/yellow tracer that goes to loom would I put that to B+ on alternator
Re: Alternator Please Help
I've been thinking of a different plug and not that one. Not even sure if any of the SJs I've worked on have bad that plug?
