Well to top off my day of stuff not going right
The tin top has just had to get a piggy back ride on a recovery truck
Somethings gone in the rear axle, feels like the wheel bearing may be gone but also by grabbing the wheel
I can make the half shaft rattle around in the diff.
Doh!

Nasty. Sorry to hear that bud.
I'd of edited the story "so there was a loud bang and we came to a grinding halt. I jumped out to inspect it and a rear wheel was all wobbly. I grabbed my handy tin of WD40 and tool box from the back. Using a collection of spares i had in the back i did a quick road side repair in under 3hours in the dark and driving rain. I got it away but anything more than 20mph and it vibrated like hell. Another hour to drive the last 15mile home but we made it."
Bit "jazzy", i know. But the shame, a recovery truck.

I think you left out the upside-down reverse fireball and explosions.

I'm sure dan could dig out a good photo of field repairs being done in the warzone of salsibury plain for a bit more realism.

nope nothing exciting here, the noise got worse and my arse started to pucker up waiting for a bang and the old girl sounded like shes was ready to give up, just next to a lovely pub. well a nice pint made things alot better.
i guess the yellow sami is donating its axle for the time being

Sounds like it's probably the side bearing in the diff, but it may have screwed the wheel bearing at the same time.
