You're best bet is to get some OS Landranger maps 1:50000 (pink ones!) of the area you're thinking of going. Greenlanes or Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) are marked as pink
-+-+-+ other routes that you may be able to drive are marked as pink dots (other route with public access)
In both cases you will need to check that the lanes are open & LEGAL to drive. You can do this but contacting the relevant council or by using
http://www.trailwise.org.uk and using the map search function. It is a bit tedious though for non-registered users as you can only search small areas at a time but is far the easiest way of checking rights of way.
So once you've planned your route - off you go, just please remember to stick to the track, shut any gates you open, stick to the track, don't drive too fast, stick to the track, slow right down/stop for walkers/horses/cylclists and did I mention stick to the track!
Above all else have fun and don't forget the kettle & small stove!
Hope that helps, Neil
