If yours is a type 2 (1983/84) like mine the handbrake is on the rear prop-shaft/back of the transfer box. All you need to adjust it is to get a decent sized flat head screwdriver, get underneath and turn the adjustment nuts. They're shaped like cartoony cogs so you just poke the screwdriver through the hole in the drum and use that to turn them. There are two, one for each pad, positioned roughly at 5 and 6 o'clock if I remember rightly.

You should have a transmission drum brake and it'll prob just need adjusting http://forum.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/vi ... 14/t,2793/

They need to follow a certain procedure to test transmission brakes on the rollers. It can damage the transmission and if they do damage something they are liable to repair it at their cost. Really you shouldn't actually test them on the rollers. I procedure is covered in the MOT manual.

Did it fail on those as well then did it? I'm not sure if your year SJ will have self adjusters or not? Either way I think you need to pull the drum off to adjust them up if the self adjusters have stopped working and there aren't any bungs you pull out to adjust them if its got manual adjusters like LJs do.

IF the MOT guy only commented on the handbrake they should be working fine

Full service manual can be found here - http://www.4x4.in.th/manual_sj413/

OK a 413 manual but a 410 running gear is much the same.

But after having a look, Scott is correct that the early models are not the same.
So had a shifty and have found these........

looks like the 83/84 model has the self adjusting mechanism (20) and adjustment on the bottom anchor assembly (23)

Inner sill seatbelt anchorage could be that there is some rust within 12" of this point

Is there any rust within 12" of the mount on the outside/underneath then?
