I know a few of you are into computers etc. I bought a Rasp pi 1st day they were for sale, it arrived a couple of days ago. It is fulfilling its function with my 13 YO son now getting into Linux and starting programming. Trying to work out how to convert one to an HD screen GPS for my navigator!!!

http://www.raspberrypi.org/ if you do not have a clue what I am talking about

I love stuff like this... and looking at the £25 price I think I might get one!
I've already done quite a lot of linux and python programming so it should be a piece of cake ;)

Good work getting your boy into programming, its a well paid job for sure!!!
The programmer in the next room to me gets paid £400 a day... if theres any incentive to learn, that's gotta be it ;)

I'll see if the gf will get me one for my birthday ;)

Twiss, Iif you wait a couple of days (Monday I think) you should be able to order without making a reservation. RS are now ordering them in batches of 100,000 therefore they think they can satisfy demand with only a 4 week wait! If you get one send me a SD card and I will copy the OS for you. (note to all peeps this is not illegal, it is Linux open source)

Hi Tim,

Cheers for the offer, but I've already downloaded it and have it running in a virtual machine ;)
I think I might just get one off Ebay. They are about £40 compared to the £25 original price, but to me it's still well worth it considering what you get!

Its my birthday on thursday so I'd like it for then really ;)

No. 2 son managed to screw up the O/S last night. Told him he had to fix it himself! After an hour he had it sorted and learnt a lot in the process.

If you ever wanted to get into programming, Python is definitely the easiest language to learn on... its so easy!!!

I learned to program on Python originally, the beauty of the Pi is that you can write many, many programming languages on it!! :)

We have been looking at what to put ours in. Thinking of getting a model of a Star wars Tie fighter (Pi fighter) or make something out of carbon fibre. The carbon fibre will probably cost more than the Pi but the boys do not want to buy a case they want to make one.

The boys are starting with python as it comes highly recommended as a start-up language, powerful as well.
