vin plate on my sammy is drivers footwell under the speaker, but it took me ages to find as some numpty had painted over it with hammerite making it nearly impossible to read.
however the chassis number should also be stamped onto the chassis leg behind drivers side front wheel, but may also be difficult to find or read if is been waxoiled.

You can't get new ones printed as its quite closely related to the forgery business, and if you made your own anyone who knew anything about sjs would know its not correct! For the purpose of your V5 your chassis number should be enough

Thats not correct, you can get VIN plates made up no problem.
a VIN plate/chassis number is an MOT requirement for all vehicles built since 1980 so you have to be able to replace damaged/missing plates.
There are no regulations to reproducing VIN plates as long as they carry all the relevant information you can get them made up in any format you like.
These guys will make you one quite legally if you provide the details, you can even put your name on it

Ahhhhh nice one! Thats handy as I've lost my vin plate somewhere.
My garage will MOT just using the chassis stamp though...

Yep, has to have at least a stamped chassis number and/or a VIN plate.
If its not got either you shouldn't get an MOT

Im sure I heard that you weren't allowed to reproduce a vin plate, I must have heard wrong if there is a place that does them, I have bought blank motorbike vin plates from eBay before, you really need some one to upload a picture of theirs so you can replicate it, I can take one of mine next time I'm down the garage, mines a 92 Spanish samurai,

Stamped chassis numbers maybe?? You're not supposed to play with them
