Mechanical fuel pump push rod

Post by st3f4n » Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:19 pm

Hi all,

How many different push rods are there for the mech fuel pump. My vit engine didn't come with one so I went and got one today off a Vit in the scrappy, but not the fuel pump as that had already gone, and its to long by approx 8mmish. Are there different ones for different pumps?

Thanks

Have you got the plastic spacer that goes between the pump and head? That's about 8mm ;)

But I think there is a few different length ones, I took back 2 aftermarket pumps because they didn't fit with the pushrod I had so I ended up buying a genuine one from :suzuki:

If you're having issues with it, it might be worth upgrading to a facet (electric) fuel pump?
They're not ridiculously expensive... I meant, Scott, how much did your mech pump set you back?

You can get facet ones for around £35... the price of that, some wires and a relay can't be much over £40

I have the black spacer, yes... The fuel pump is so hard to push tho, I litterally had to put it in the vice today to see how far it would compress, Im not sure if this is a problem or how its ment to be?? it may have freed up a tad as i can do it with my hands but really have to squezze exceptionally hard.

I have got a facet electric pump aswell but wanted to use the mechanical one but that may have to go down the drain if i can sus it by tommorrow

Cheers

Is it an aftermarket pump that you have? do you have the part number? Like I said in my first post I tried the two that my local motor factors had listed for the 1.6 8v and both were wrong for different reasons. when new they are very stiff and it is hard to push them in with your hands.
