Have done a search but not sure a what i'm looking for!

The steering in my SJ seems loose, in taht you can be going along in a straight line yet turn teh wheel left to right quite a bit before you actually effect the direction.

It has always been like this, and I don't remember what my other SJ was like so my question is, is it normal, a characteristic you might say, so is tehre a know problem / fix?

You can sometimes get away with tightening the steering box... theres a bolt on it that you do up to tighten it but I'm not sure which one it is...

It's also worth having a look at the condition of the rag joint at the bottom end of the steering column, and checking your track/tie rod ends for play...

When my steering was sloppy it turned out it was the rag joint that was fubar

its the screw (slot head) , with the nut in it , because when i picked up my new sj the steering you could do 3/4 of a turn of the wheel and the wheels didnt move atal so i had to tighten it up on the side of the road to get it home

That sounds akin to mine, will have to see if I can work on it tomorrow! Nights aren't long enough for me anymore after work.
