Good idea. Prop shafts too.twiss wrote:Take the engine and gearboxes off the chassis and put them in the back of the tow vehicle
You don't want to put the t box in neutral if you are towing it.... the t-box neutral is in the 4wd side of the selections (the selector forks leave the gears engaged as 4wd) so, all though you disconnect the drive from the engine you leave the front a rear axle connect in 4wd, if your A-framing it can lead to transmission wind up or if its on a dolly I imagine it will try and crawl its way off the minute you start towing! Just stick to the proper neutral on the main gear box!Edweird wrote:I'd guess the same. An SJ weighs about 3/4 of a ton. My guess would be about 1/2 without a body. If you're towing it, t-box neutral would reduce some drag, as would freewheeling hubs.
Okay, my mistake. I didn't realise. Dont use t-box neutral.Tramp wrote:You don't want to put the t box in neutral if you are towing it.... the t-box neutral is in the 4wd side of the selections (the selector forks leave the gears engaged as 4wd) so, all though you disconnect the drive from the engine you leave the front a rear axle connect in 4wd, if your A-framing it can lead to transmission wind up or if its on a dolly I imagine it will try and crawl its way off the minute you start towing!
