what are spats?

right guys im new to this forum so some of the lingo you guys speak just confuses me, i am after some wide wheel arches or intend to make some wide wheel arches as my wheels stick out a little i see scottie uses spats but what the hell are they? or if anyone else has any other alternatives to make wheel arches let me know cheers matt

spats are thin plastic/rubber strips that you extend your original arches with like this

ok mate any ideas where i can get the material from or is it just any old plastic or rubber? i would guess it needs to be flexible?

i made mine from a gardeners trug but you can use just about anything, bin, bucket, conveyor belt, rubber flooring

my original ones were made out of an old lorry wheel arch, cut into 4 strips.

teh ones in the pic are made out of some 8mm thick plastic that a mate of mine got from his work, haven't got a clue what its off though???

I bought 2X atric mud flaps for a trailer. Think they set me back about £17 each! and they are HUGE!

ferris that stuff looks good, how have you fixed it to your vehicle? i still have the original wheel arch bits where the plastic ones fix to on my sj would it fix to there ok?
