Post by farmerben » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:45 pm

hi,
i was thinking of fitting a turbo on my 1990 sj413 but wondered how much boost the engine would take ,and where to take the turbo oil feed from and where to put the oil return ????

I don't know much myself, but this popped up on my yotube recommended today and I remembered your thread.

He might be worth talking to, if you can message him through youtube. According to his video, he's using 25psi boost.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

That engine must've had some serious work done to the internals then as a stock sj lump's limit would more than likely be around 6-8psi. anything more and I doubt the bottom end would last long. I would imagine the Sammy in the vid was running a modded swift gti lump.

I personally think if you want to off-road your Sammy then you'd be better off fitting a 1.6 vit lump or fitting a supercharger as you want torque not high rev bhp.

If you are serious about turboing it then your best bet would be to look on teamswift.net as not many sj owners bother turboing them.

Mate of mine fitted a 306 turbo to his 1.3 (engine was on its way out)

It went well, but just sped up the process of dying... from about 6 weeks to 6 days

Long story short, its not worth it, fit a tdi lump in it instead
