Greetings all , i have a 2002 grand v 1600cc petrol , 2 door softtop . a couple of weeks ago it started lurching / surging but at high revs and speed it seemed fine. Now though it is worse , some times it will not tick over just stops , when it does tick over it is not even . When going slow , say in town , it kangaroos some times , or feels like the electric goes off then on quickly . I have tried a petrol addertive for cleaning the jets , and use Red X every time i fill the tank over 3/4 full , but no real change . I have a new filter to fit , but i got to thinking that if the exit pipe on the curent filter was bloked surely the fuel to the engine would be a constant shortage at the injecters ? i was going to add who knows, but then some one in the club will know . So any ideas , please let me know , MOT at end of month . Thanks in advance . Paz.

I’d advise changing the fuel filter as you have one and it could be causing your issues.

If it doesn’t solve the issue then when was the last time the spark plugs or air filter etc. were changed?

Start with the simple service items to see if anything helps.

HI hello, thank you for the tips . I have now side stepped the problems , i bought a new second hand car, to sort of paraphrase a line from a " WHO SONG " ,, meet the new car, same as the old car . Well almost , i now have a 2004 model series 1 Grand V , 2 door , petrol , soft top , 1600cc . It arrived yesterday , so i cancelled the MOT ( today ) on the now old one ( a bit of a relief there ) . It cost me £49 to change the reg number and colour on the insethus werants , and that was just for the 6 months or so i have left on the policy ( the girl on the phone told me to do it on line myself , thus saving myself £25 if someone did it for me over the phone ) Insewerants , a licence to print money , you wait a year and a day for a payout ( unless they can find some loophole so as not to pay up ) but the Gods forbid you being late with an installment . Any way that's that . But i do now have the old car up for £150 as a rolling parts store ( to be gone ASAP ) Parking problem, one space two cars , the housing association are hot on that , and my garage is full up with two motorbikes and an old British two seater no top. If any of you wish to know more about anything ( other than " the donald " Mr fart , the man with the golden skin .
