I believe my front calipers need some attention.
Understand there are 2 different types available. Been suggested mine are Lucas.
How can one identify ??

Yes those are Lucas Girling calipers. They are the harder type to find but the good news is rebuild kits are available and places like BiggRed offer a rebuild service, think it’s around £75 a calliper now.

Autodoc list some, but there is a core charge so might just be easier to get yours rebuilt.

It’s the Tokico 54mm calipers that you need off an 88-98 LWB vitara. However the hard part to find are the calliper carriers.
The GVs do use the same calipers however the carriers have the wrong offset. You could have some GV carriers machined down though to correct the offset.

Also when fitted to an SJ the bleed nipples end up on the side of the calliper so you need to unbolt the calliper and rotate it to bleed with the nipple at the top to get all the air out.

I wonder if it is an upgrade that is really necessary.

I run LWB vitara calipers up front on my LWB, SWB vitara calipers on the rear (48mm) and a grand vitara XL7 master cylinder and servo and have to say the brakes are amazing, even when stopping 33” tyres.

Sj brakes are fine with standard (ish) size tyres. I only upgrade as I run much bigger tyres than stock on my SJs.

I was planning to keep standard size wheels.
