GV Headlamp Washers

Anyone had problems with their headlamp washers?
Mine haven't worked since I bought the GV last year. My first suspicion was maybe the pump had packed up but I've pulled the switch out the dash and if I run a wire from the power terminal (on the connector/plug) to earth the washers operate so I'm presuming the pump is ok. I'm not great with electrics but would that suggest the switch is at fault or more that I've got a problem with an earth somewhere?
