2005 GV 1600 front Driveshaft Boots

Failed MOT today on a front spring (which I will just let the garage replace for me).
But I also noticed he has given me an advisory for both front outer Driveshaft Boots (Gaiters) being seriously deteriorated,I have not had a look at them yet - I will look at them tomorrow.
I think the driveshafts/CV joints are ok (only done 46,000 miles) - so my question is - how difficult is it to just replace the actual rubber boots rather than replace both driveshafts ? and is there anything else specific to check on the driveshafts before deciding on the best course of action.
I have looked at a couple of videos for driveshaft removal but did not see a good one for the Boot replacement.
The other thing is - any recommendations for exhaust systems ? - our downpipe/cat are severely corroded and I might decide to replace it before it falls off LOL
