4x4 relay blowing

Hi everyone,
When I select 4x4 Low on my ‘08 1.9 DDIS it is blowing one of the 3 Denso relays and I end up with no drive at all. I can start the car in gear with my foot off the clutch!
I have the 4x4 symbol on the dash accompanied by a flashing red ‘N’ ( neutral I presume?) and a beep about every 7th flash.
I’ve tried two relays now and blown both.
Any thoughts please.
